In 2012, despite having no prior mountaineering expertise, Nirmal accomplished his first significant ascent to Lobuche. He set out to climb Dhaulagiri (8,167 meters) on May 18, 2014, for the first time. On May 13, 2016, Purja made it to the top of Mount Everest for the second time.
On May 15, 2017, he led a group of 13 Gurkhas on an expedition called “G200E,” and they successfully climbed Mount Everest. This journey was planned to honor the 200th anniversary of unwavering support for the British Army.
In 2019, Nirmal launched Project Possible and by April 23, he had reached the peak of his first mountain.
