Patrick’s first professional activity was tennis. He has a genuine passion for tennis, which has helped him rise to the positions of World No. 28 in singles and World No. 3 in doubles. Together with Luke Jensen, he swept the 1984 Clay Court Junior Doubles and French Junior Doubles titles, as well as the 1984 USTA Boys’ 18 Doubles Championship.

In 1986 and 1988, he was a key member of the Stanford University squad that won the NCAA title. During his stay at Stanford, Patrick was an active member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In his professional debut, he and his brother won the doubles championship at Virginia.
