The Utah Jazz chose Millsap with the 47th overall choice in the 2006 NBA Draft, and on August 2, 2006, the Jazz and Millsap reached an agreement on a rookie scale contract.

In the second part of 2006, a few sports writers suggested Millsap as a potential Rookie of the Year contender.

He was averaging nearly 7 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block per game at the end of the 2006–07 campaign. With 20 points, 17 rebounds, four blocks, four thefts, three assists, and 38 minutes played, he recorded season highs in each category.

In 2009, the Jazz extended Millsap a qualifying offer, which altered his status as a restricted free agent. On July 10, 2009, he agreed to the Portland Trail Blazers’ four-year, $32 million offer sheet, which includes $6.2 million for the 2009–10 campaign.

On January 29, 2015, Millsap was selected as a reserve for the Eastern Conference All-Star game, making it two years in a row. The All-Star game will include four Hawks reserve players.
