Robert was born in 1931 to Mildred Virginia, an actress, and Admiral William Howard Duvall, a rear admiral in the United States Navy. He was the second of three sons and grew up with two other siblings.
His elder brother’s name is Willia Jr., and his younger brother’s name is John, he died in 2000. His father, who served in the United States Navy, wanted him to attend the Naval Academy.
But life had another chapter in store for Duvall, one in which he would gain enormous love and leave a legacy that would be recognized and admired by future generations.
He chose an acting profession, and the rest is history. He has been married four times but has never had children. His first wife was Barbara Benjamin Marcus (1964-1981), and he later married Gail Youngs.
