Tom Wopat was born in Lodi, Wisconsin, on September 9, 1951, under the sign of Virgo. His parents are Albin Carl Wopat (1919-1983) and Ruth Arlene Skarda Wopat (1920-1959). His father was a devoted Roman Catholic dairy farmer of Czech descent.

On his parents’ dairy farm, he grew up with two siblings, Rick Wopat and Dave Wopat, and two sisters. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for two years to study music before dropping out to form a rock ensemble.

Wopat was previously married to Kathy Wopat, with whom he had five children: Taylor Wopat, Lindsey Gary, Joey Cobbs, Walker Wopat, and Adam Wopat. In 1984, he remarried Vickie Allen after the divorce, and they divorced in 2000.

How did Tom start his Professional Career?

Tom began his acting career in 1968 with the Tom Wopat classic One Life to Live, starring among others Kristen Alderson, Susan Batten, and Kale Browne. Not until 1979, however, did he receive his major break with The Dukes of Hazzard.

His other well-known compositions include Murder, She Wrote, The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion!, Longmire, Delight in the Mountain, and Lovestruck: The Musical.

Similarly, Wopat made his Broadway debut as Wally in the musical I Love My Wife in 1977. In 1981, the actor portrayed a pivotal role in Carousel at the Augusta Barn Theatre in Augusta, Michigan.

For his performance as Butler, he was nominated for his first Tony Award, and for A Catered Affair, he was nominated for his second. Sondheim on Sondheim debuted at Studio 54 at the Roundabout Theatre in March 2010 and ran through June 27, 2010.
