Maude Apatow

Maude Apatow, Judd Apatow the father, frequently humiliates his daughter on live television. The Late Show with Stephen Colbert featured a clip of Maude’s parents airing their daughter’s dirty laundry in a 2019 episode. Colbert also showed a clip of 9-year-old Maude singing the popular Cats song Memory.

When Maude came on The Tonight Show to talk about Euphoria season 2 with Jimmy Fallon, Judd performed the same stunt. A video of 14-year-old Maude adorably fangirling over One Direction while interviewing them for Teen Vogue was submitted by Maude’s father.

Before finishing high school, Maude’s parents forbade her from pursuing a career in acting.

Hollywood A-listers Leslie Mann and acclaimed director Judd Apatow are the parents of Maude Apatow. Comedy genre experts Judd and Leslie have worked together on five different films.

In the 2007 movie Knocked Up, Judd gave Maude and her sister Iris their acting debuts. Leslie played the mother of the characters Maude and Iris in the film.

From a young age, Maude had ambitions to explore the world, but Judd and Leslie decided to raise their girls to close. Iris and Maude continued acting, but they only appeared in their father’s productions. To Rolling Stone, Maude stated:

“When I was a child, my parents never permitted me to perform in anything without them. As a child, I too recall wishing to work on Broadway. I was eager to get to work. Furthermore, it was crucial to my parents that I complete high school and be mature enough to handle myself in those circumstances without them.”

Judd stated that he and Leslie wished for the sisters to “live a normal existence for as long as possible” in the same interview. Maude and Iris despised their parents’ attitude, but Judd demanded that they impose limitations to save the children.

Because sets are strange places, Judd explained, “our philosophy was always, ‘You can work with us or with our buddies, individuals who can safeguard you.

Although Maude has developed a profession independent of her parents, she has no reservations about working with them. Initially hesitant to collaborate with Judd on The King of Staten Island, Apatow admitted to The Los Angeles Times that she eventually realized she had a lot to learn from her father.

Maude says:

“As a mentor in my life, he is someone I look up to. Watching my dad work is important to me since I want to be a director someday. It simply felt like, “Why would I not do it? I don’t know when I’m ever going to do this again.”

The challenges of marriage have been discussed openly by Maude’s parents. I can’t believe Mrs. Apatow just walked in the room, Judd Apatow said when Leslie Mann finished her audition for The Cable Guy.

Although Leslie had a thing for the film’s director Ben Stiller, she allowed Judd to shine. Mann felt she had discovered her soul mate after going on a few dates.

Mann admitted to Elle,

My prior lover was incredibly cruel. And I remarked, “Judd’s nice. I ought to be with people like this. After the game, we then became intimate. It seemed as though I was already in love.”

Early in June 1997, the pair got married in Los Angeles. They welcomed Iris in October 2002 and Maude in December 1997. Judd called Leslie “the greatest thing that has ever happened to me” on Instagram on their 20th wedding anniversary.

Leslie and Judd’s altercation at a restaurant in LA towards the end of 2019 garnered media attention. Judd brushed off the argument during a guest appearance on The View, calling it a typical marital disagreement:

We quarrel, and I believe that’s one of the reasons our relationship is strong. You receive a call asking, “What do you say? We witnessed you guys arguing. I thought, “Really? Have you ever been wed? Do you understand what a marriage is?

Judd acknowledged that it was difficult to keep things exciting after more than 20 years of marriage in January 2020. He revealed to Us Weekly:

“Since you’ve exhausted all the worthwhile presents and activity ideas, you need to get incredibly creative. After a while, nothing is off-limits, like when you go white water rafting or hire mariachi bands.

Judd sent his wife a sweet birthday message in March 2021. The text emphasized how much a simple “I love you” may mean:

I cherish you. I’m done now. Exactly that It suffices. Never has anyone meant it more. Not a myth. Unlike J Lo. It’s not Kelsey Grammar. Neither of them. I cherish you.

Maude wouldn’t mind if her parents’ ridiculous antics stopped.

She doesn’t like it when her parents submit embarrassing films to talk show hosts, which is perhaps not unexpected. Maude said to Stephen Colbert after hearing her parents complain about her dropping out of college, her distaste for everything they cherish, her apparent laziness, and how spoiled she is:

“My mum saying that made me unhappy. I won’t speak negatively about them since I’m not that petty.

But sometimes Judd and Leslie complement their naturally talented daughter instead of making Maude feel bad. To Rolling Stone, Judd said:

“What I think was so amazing about Maude is that she actually could get inside the head of what a teenage meltdown looks like, perform it on film, and kick ass – and then go home and have a real one, two hours later,” says the author.

Maude is complimentary of her parents as well. Apatow first detested their insistence that she finish high school before pursuing acting, but she has since come to respect their choice.

Maude told Rolling Stone, “I’m incredibly delighted that I ended up continuing in high school.” “I think I was genuinely ready when they allowed me to start acting on my own,” she said.
