Mrs. McLaughlin is the daughter of a dentist father and a designer mother. Her mother, who also designed unique, glamorous, and inspiring spaces, was her primary guardian throughout her childhood. She began her design career when she was 12 years old, with her first personal project being her bedroom.
What Motivated Jessie McLaughlin to Work as a Designer?
Jessie became interested in design after seeing her mother design her father’s dental office. “My father had several offices, and my mother loved decorating and designing them all.”

Her passion for design followed her to the West Coast after her young family relocated for her husband’s YouTube endeavors. After finishing her long stint as a homeschool mother, which included numerous coats of paint on her Craigslist dining room table, Jessie realized that interior design was her true calling.
She once admitted that she enjoys creating spaces that are as warm, joyful, and livable as the people who inhabit them. She believes that spaces have souls as well.
Artful tension and resolution in a dynamic space, like in a good story, sparks curiosity and creates a human connection, according to Jessie. Mrs. McLaughlin isn’t too serious about herself, and she’s not afraid of color. The mother of two believes in design that is welcoming, functional, and ultimately brings people home.
The beginning of Jessie’s relationship with Rhett McLaughlin?
In his book, Rhett & Link’s Book of Mythicality: A Field Guide to Curiosity, Creativity, and Tomfoolery, the now 45-year-old Rhett writes about the first time he met his wife, Jessie, saying, I had no idea Jessie existed, even though her father was my dentist when I was a kid. I didn’t meet her until my junior year of college, on a trip back home.
Rhett claims he was captivated by Jessie from their first meeting. The YouTuber, who has nearly 18 million subscribers, felt an immediate and intense connection with her. Jessie was a senior in high school at the time.
When asked about their early relationship, Jessie said she couldn’t get the tall, almost skinny image of McLaughlin out of her head. Rhett stated in the Oct 2021 Ear Biscuits podcast that Jessie and he were comfortable with each other from the start and shared everything.
Jessie Lane McLaughlin and Rhett married in 2001 and welcomed their first child, Locke McLaughlin, in February 2004. Shepherd, their second child, was born in 2008. Jessie and her husband waited until their wedding day to get physical.
They have a Maltipoo named Barbara Mandrell McLaughlin in addition to two sons. The name comes from the couple’s custom of naming their dogs after country singers. Rhett attributes his passion for creating to his wife, Jessie, and says she has been the lynchpin of their family throughout his YouTube journey.
Her husband’s internet partner, 43-year-old Link Neal, is married to Christy Neal; they married in Kinston, North Carolina, in 2000.
