Betty Lee Oakes was born on August 19, 1951, to parents Willie Norwood and Shelly Gibson in Sumner, Iowa. Her father, Norwood, was a farmer in the Randalia, Iowa, area. As a little girl growing up in a community of fifty people, she yearned to be a model.

The closest modeling school was in Des Moines, which was 350 miles from the actress’ home. Parents provided Oakes with travel funds twice a week so she could leave the house and pursue modeling. At the age of 17, she was chosen as Miss Iowa Model of the Year.

She had roles in a lot of movies and TV shows before CHiPs, such as Twin Detectives, Acapulco Gold, Rosetti and Ryan, and others. When she was chosen to play Margo in McCloud, she launched her acting career.

In 1979, she made an appearance in the Battle of the Network Stars VII TV game show special. She first met her spouse, Harrison, in this location. Emma Lee, Lily Ann, and Kate are three of her four daughters who she shares with Harrison.

Their son Quinn Edgar was adopted. Southern Oregon is where the six-person family was last spotted. Social media are not used by the actress.
