According to the official summary of the series:
Follows Julian Kaye as he struggles to get back on his feet in the contemporary Los Angeles sex industry and negotiates his challenging relationships after being released from prison after 15 years due to an incorrect conviction.
The movie American Gigolo is produced by Jon Bernthal, with David Hollander, Jerry Bruckheimer, Jonathan Littman, and Kristie Anne Reed serving as executive producers.
The official American Gigolo teaser aired in July and gave viewers an inside peek into Julian Kaye’s pursuit of the person who sentenced him to a 15-year prison term. The character’s revived romance with Michelle, whose husband might be the one who framed him, was also hinted at.
The program acquired a 10-episode series order in June, and new episodes will air once each week on Showtime. The 1980 film American Gigolo, which starred Richard Gere as Julian Kaye, a Los Angeles callboy who lives a lavish lifestyle as a high-paying prostitute, served as the main inspiration for the Showtime television adaptation of the book.
Except the frustrated politician’s wife and non-paying bedmate Michelle Stratton, no one was willing to help Kaye prove his innocence after he was falsely accused of a murder he did not commit.
Before this, Kaye had it all: the Giorgio Armani suits, the Mercedes, and a steady clientele of wealthy, older women looking for a good time.
The 1980 film, which was influenced by European art cinema, was directed by Paul Schrader. Schrader blended the riskier aspects of wealth with the steamier aspects of sex in the crime thriller movie. The movie is a stylish portrayal of a pleasure-seeking, emotionally distant person who gets caught up in the high life of Los Angeles without thinking about the consequences and ends up unintentionally involved in one.
