After the team “battled into the state championship game,” the Boston Globe featured her as “the only female in the state doing play-by-play.” Her ‘big break’ came in 2008, when she was hired to provide play-by-play commentary for the Hawks, the women’s basketball team at the University of Hartford.

Her first radio network play-by-play commentary was for Westwood One’s Big East Women’s Championship coverage. She recalls being “nervous as a rookie” in the beginning. After graduating from Syracuse, Lawrence worked on various local radio programs. Before joining CBS in 2013, she worked for ESPN Radio for nine years.
