His parents are Andre Jackson Sr. and Tricia Altieri. Both of Andre’s parents were basketball players. His mother was a Fulton-Montgomery Community College basketball player as well as an amateur boxer. His father, too, attended Fulton-Montgomery and then Mercy College.
Andre Jackson Jr.’s love of basketball began when he was a child when his mother coached a team at the YMCA in Amsterdam, New York, where they were born. Tricia frequently accompanied Andre to the gym, where he began playing when he was five years old. Jackson Jr. quickly developed a passion for the game and a desire to improve his skills.
One of his goals was to dunk a basketball, something he attempted for the first time in third grade. Despite his initial failures, he persisted and, much to his mother’s amazement, achieved his goal in sixth grade.
