Torrez is an attorney who identifies as a “lower-case atheist” and is public about his agnosticism despite staying away from defending atheist causes in court.
On January 17, Andrew sent an email to the American Atheists board of directors informing them of his resignation. The board members welcomed him and conveyed their best wishes as he handed them the resignation letter.
He continued by saying that he was unable to participate in many calls and that the Board would be better served by someone who could commit the required time to the position.
When he registered, the “lower-case atheist lawyer” was not aware of the allegations of unethical behavior made against him by an activist worker.
At the time of his departure, Torrez was unaware that several female coworkers had accused him of sexual harassment.
Torrez allegedly sent one of his admirers some unfavorable text messages, which she reported to the RNS.
Between 2017 and 2022, the woman corresponds with RNS, and the married Torrez makes comments about the appearance of a number of program spectators.
When Torrez’s supporters reacted negatively to his comments, he apologized to them.

Felicia Entwistle, one of the women, revealed to RNS that she first met Layer Torrez during a remote appearance on an atheist podcast.
After the two struck up a connection and started messaging, she intended to ask Torrez for advice on how to increase the number of listeners for her podcast.
At some point, Felicia had a meeting with the co-host of “Opening Arguments” at an event in Utah, where she was from.
Felicia asserted that she went out for drinks at the pub with Torrez and other supporters. She left the bar, and Andrew sent her a message asking her to go back to the hotel where he was staying as he was leaving town the next day.
