Saturday, during their Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame acceptance speech, Duran Duran divulged that its founding guitarist, Andy Taylor, was suffering from stage 4 prostate cancer.
The 61-year-old guitarist was scheduled to play at the band’s induction ceremony in Los Angeles on November 5, but he was unable to attend.
After performing a medley of their songs, current members Simon Le Bon, John Taylor, Nick Rhodes, and Roger Taylor defended his absence.

During their address, Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran read an excerpt from a letter written by a bandmate who was unable to travel from Ibiza to attend the band’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
According to Le Bon, Andy Taylor was diagnosed four years ago. Le Bon then delivered a letter from Taylor to his four bandmates, fellow honorees, and “countrymen.”
His heartfelt message was a thank you to all those who contributed to Duran Duran’s success, including studios, producers, and family members. Andy Taylor recognized his ailment in the letter and stated that he was receiving top-tier treatment.
He did add, though, that he was progressively accepting the fact that, although his illness does not now threaten his life, there is no cure for it.
“I have the Rodgers and Edwards of doctors and medical therapy, which has allowed me to rock on until late.” My current sickness is not fatal, but there is no treatment.”
In addition, he stated that he was doing well until a recent setback stopped him from attending the induction ceremony. The remainder of his statement emphasized that his health should not overshadow the band’s achievements.
“None of this needs to or should detract from what this band has achieved and maintained for the past 44 years” (with or without me). We have led a fortunate life.

Andy Taylor closed the letter by thanking his bandmates and expressing his appreciation for winning the prized award. He expressed regret for being unable to attend the ceremony but was glad that it took place anyhow.
