The rape case of Angelique Cauchy has attracted attention from the public.
Angélique Cauchy, who testified this past Tuesday, September 5, before a commission of inquiry, was the victim of a sexual assault by her coach at the Sarcelles club in Val-d’Oise when she was twelve years old.
In May of last year, she had previously acknowledged to Franceinfo that she had been “raped nearly 400 times by her tennis coach over two years.”
Because of this, Andrew Gueddes was found guilty in 2021 of raping and sexually abusing four young girls between the ages of 12 and 17 and given an 18-year prison term.
As a member of the committee tasked with looking into “failures in the functioning within sports federations, the sports movement, and governance bodies of the world sporty,” which was founded in July, Angélique Cauchy decided to testify this week, on Tuesday.
Angélique Cauchy also recalls that, at the time, only one person had made the decision to meet with the club president and discuss inappropriate conduct against youth, such as physical and verbal abuse.
However, the latter brushed off the warning as unwarranted, highlighting the coach’s role in “bringing back titles” for the squad.
She was sexually raped by him before she turned thirteen. She thought about killing herself a lot.
Angelique Cauchy said that when she woke up to the 12-year-old child she once was, she still thanked herself for choosing life every day.
She acknowledges before the commission of inquiry that while she came close to death when she was twelve years old, it is because of her that she is alive now.
Where Is Andrew Gueddes, Her Coach, Right Now?
The Yvelines Assize Court sentenced former tennis teacher Andrew Geddes to eighteen years in prison on January 13, 2021, in response to an appeal about the rape of many former pupils who were all minors at the time of the offenses.
Mr. Geddes, who had received the same sentence in the first trial, was found guilty of raping and sexually abusing four adolescent girls between the ages of 12 and 17 in the early 2000s and between 2009 and 2014. This conviction followed a second trial that included intense evidence from witnesses.
At the relevant period, Mr. Geddes, who is now 53 years old, was a coach at the Sarcelles Club and then at the Levallois Sporting Club (LSC). He was twelve years old when she met him for the first time in 1999.
She alleges that up to the age of 14, the former coach sexually assaulted and raped her more than 400 times.
A similar pattern emerged when Mr. Geddes, who was known for being charming but also quite stern with his pupils, taught three more victims, who were between the ages of fifteen and seventeen.
The victims described one after another, a “Control process” wherein he kept them away from their loved ones and forced them into having sex with him in his vehicle, in the club’s lavatories, or during their internship at La Baule.
