Fridays for Future formerly involved Windl. She has reportedly been detained eleven times. Anja Windl was also threatened by the Austrian authorities with expulsion from the nation.
After the story broke, the activist received a lot of public attention. Read on to learn more about the activist.
In 1998, Anja Windl was born. Anha Windl will thus be 25 years old in 2023.
The young environmentalist is a native of Lower Bavaria. It is one of Germany’s Bavaria’s seven administrative regions. The activist, often known as “Climate Shakira,” is a Carinthian university student at the moment. She is a psychology major.
Windl has long been active in the Last Generation community. The organization utilized civil disobedience methods including damaging property or impeding traffic, which usually infuriated the public.
In only 2022, the organization conducted 276 road blockades in Germany. In Rome, they hurled soup at a glass-enclosed reproduction of Vincent Van Gogh’s The Sower.
In Potsdam, they similarly covered a Monet painting with mashed potatoes. None of the artworks they assaulted were broken, though.
She also participated in Friday for Future, a global campaign for school children. On Friday, many students will leave class to take part in demonstrations calling on government leaders to take action to stop climate change.
The Friday for Future campaign calls for action to convert the fossil fuel industry to renewable energy sources.
Expulsion of Anja Windl to Her Hometown
This week, Anja Windl told Heute that the immigration authorities are looking into many years’ worth of residency prohibitions against her in Austria.
The activist said in an interview with the newspaper that “an identity check was done, and the immigration police received my information.”
The psychology student in Austria further said that immigration officials seek to prevent her from remaining in the country since she has already accrued a long list of administrative fines.
“I feel it outrageous that I am not allowed to protest in Austria,” the native German said. Although I spent a significant amount of time living in Austria, it is still uncertain how strictly this may be enforced by law, Anja continued.
On Thursday, she will meet with the immigration police. After the meeting, Windl said, everything will be apparent.
The native of Lower Bavaria already knew from various sources that she was a pain in the neck because of her high-profile adhesive protests and demonstrations on key thoroughfares, which would probably be abolished under the purview of a housing restriction.
But Windl made it clear that she wouldn’t back down and would keep protesting in public.
