Anna began her career in track and events while still in high school. She ran the 100m HH in 13.17 seconds and the 400m in 55.20 seconds. Cockrell was also seen at the 2015 Pan American Junior, the 2016 Penn Relays, and the 2016 World Under 20. She ran a timing of 55.51 seconds for USC at the Battle on the Bayou in 2017. Later that year, she was spotted at the NCAA Championship and the Pac-12s. Anna was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team in 2017. She was awarded to the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America Track/Cross Country Second Team the following year.

She won the NCAA 400m Hurdles title in 2019 with a time of 55.23 seconds. With a time of 56.14 seconds, she finished sixth in the 400m hurdles at the USATF Championship. She was also seen in other contests such as the Pac-12 and others. TeeTee Terry, a teammate, joined her on the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America team. In the 400m, she was seen competing alongside Dalilah Muhammad and Sydney McLaughlin. She made it to the finals of the 400m hurdles thanks to her hard effort.
