Anne Hart, A Musical Icon, Passes Away At The Age Of 90

Anne Hart

Anne Hart, a former West End actress who spent fifty years married to comedian Ronnie Corbett, has passed away. Her family stated that the 90-year-old passed away “peacefully, surrounded by her family” at her Scottish residence in the early hours of Sunday.

Her actress daughter Sophie Corbett remarked,

“At precisely one o’clock in the morning, we lost my cherished mother.

“My sister Emma and I, as well as her four grandchildren Tom, Tilly, Dylan, and Billy, will eternally cherish and betray her; she was an extraordinary woman.”

“We will be bringing her home to Abingdon, near Croydon, which is where the family lived when my Dad was alive.”

Anne Hart was recently admitted to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment of a hip fracture after an accident at the Muirfield Wood, an ancestral estate situated in East Lothian.

As a juvenile, she debuted on the West End in the Christmas production Where The Rainbow Ends and also appeared in Covent Garden operas in child roles.

She rose to prominence on stage in her twenties as the lead lady of The Crazy Gang’s comedic productions Clown Jewels and Young In Heart.

In the late 1950s, Hart encountered Ronnie Corbett, an emerging comedian at the time, her future spouse, at Danny La Rue’s club in Hanover Square, where they were both employed.

She was hitherto wed to John Padley, a vocalist for The Four Jones Boys, before entering into matrimony with Corbett at the Brixton registry office.

During their wedding night, Hart performed at Danny La Rue’s venue. Andrew, the couple’s firstborn, was delivered with a congenital heart defect and died within a brief span of six weeks.

After their marriage, Corbett and Anne Hart produced two daughters and four grandchildren. Corbett passed away in 2016 at the age of 85, following a suspected diagnosis of motor neuron disease.

Corbett and Ronnie Barker ascended to prominence as co-hosts of the hit BBC comedy sketch series The Two Ronnies.

The sixteen-year run of the BBC program, which was renowned for its four- candles routine and attracted as many as 22 million viewers, was notable.
