Aodhán, a talented football player, was honored widely after his demise. The Dundela Football Club has created a touching tribute in remembrance of Aodhán Gillen, who unfortunately passed away on Thursday.
Even though he had only recently joined the squad in January, the 22-year-old made a big difference on and off the field.
Everyone at the club adored Aodhán because of his “caring nature and his friendly attitude,” according to a statement on Dundela’s Facebook page.
In addition, they highlighted Aodhán’s apparent football potential, referring to him as a “throwback to the glory days of out-and-out wingers.”
Aodhán also played for Newington, Carrick Rangers, and Newington; in the Steel & Sons Cup final of 2021, he scored the game-winning goal against Linfield Swifts.

As a club, we are unable to imagine the unspeakable sorrow that Aodhán’s loved ones are currently experiencing. Our deepest sympathies are sent to them at this difficult time.
Aodhán had many close friends and was held in the same high respect as at Dundela FC, therefore we also send our deepest sympathies to everyone at Carrick Rangers and Newington FC.
The coaching staff and other players were devastated to learn about this. Having already experienced the devastating loss of a player,
Newington FC expressed the same sentiments as an homage to Aodhán on the team’s Twitter feed.
News of Aodhan’s passing
Tragically, Aodhán Gillen passed away on Thursday. Everyone at Newington admired Aodhan, who was not just a terrific athlete but also a wonderful guy.
Aodhan Gillen played a crucial role in our team’s recent successes. He won the Premier Intermediate League, and he scored the game-winning goal in the 2021 Steel & Sons Cup final.
After seeing his boundless potential, it was thought that Premiership outfit Carrick Rangers would recruit him.
Every member of the Newington Football Club will forever etch Aodhan’s name into their souls.
Carrick Rangers also stated learning of Aodhán’s demise and expressing their shock. Aodhán transferred from Newington to the ‘Gers last summer.
According to the organization, the winger earned his first start against Newry City on the first day of the regular season because of his “exciting potential and hard-working attitude.”
Dundela offered condolences to Carrick Rangers and Newington FC as well as thanked his many close friends there.
After lamenting the loss of a player in the past, the club went on to say regarding Michael Goddard’s passing: “Going ahead, we as a club will provide all necessary support systems for players and personnel.
Michael was playing a game at Stangmore Park in 1995 when a ball struck him tragically in the chest during a match against the Dungannon Swifts. Carrick Rangers expressed their “deep sadness” in response to the news.
