Armand Gustav “Mondo” Duplantis, born on November 10, 1999, is a Swedish-American pole vaulter. He has world records in both outdoor and indoor pole vaulting and has won Olympic and World gold in both events. He is also the current European and Diamond League champion.
Mondo’s impressive achievements include a silver medal in the 2019 World Championships. Notably, he won the European championship twice, the first time in 2018, when he also set the current world under-20 record, and the second time in 2022. Duplantis broke his previous world mark of 6.21 meters, which he set at the World Championships in Oregon in 2022. After two failed tries, he sailed over the bar on his third attempt, setting a new world record height of 6.22 meters. The audience exploded in cheers as he touched down on the landing pad. In the two years that followed, he continued to outdo himself, breaking his record four more times before attaining this milestone.
