Artikal Sound System Sued Dua Lipa Over Her Famous Song Levitating

Artikal Sound

The British pop star Dua Lipa is facing legal issues related to Levitating, the song that served as the inspiration for her album Future Nostalgia(2021) and was possibly the year’s biggest hit.

The reggae group “Artikal Sound System” from Florida has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Dua, alleging that his song is a parody of their far less well-known 2017 hit, “Live Your Life.”

Warner Records, the record company home to Dua, is one of the parties named as defendants. In addition to damages, the organization is requesting revenue from the composition.

Do Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” and Artikal Sound System’s “Live Your Life” have similar sounds?

Even though the content of the two songs is very different, some people may recognize the rhythm. The atmosphere of the two songs might be similar, but only time will tell.

The vocalist heard the music before 2020, according to the band’s brief lawsuit, and copied it exactly. Additionally, it was asserted in the case that Levitating could not have been created independently because the two songs were so similar.

With her 2017 song New Rules being certified multi-platinum globally, Dua Lipa was already a mainstream success before the album, but the album and the hit single Levitating catapulted her to stardom.

Levitating was made available as the album’s fifth official single on March 27, 2020. The song eventually became Dua’s highest-charting Top 10 success because of a remix that featured DaBaby. Silk Sonic’s Leave The Door Open topped the charts, narrowly denying it the top spot.

The song features electro-disco and nu-disco components together with typical disco clichés. Levitating received praise for its dance-pop, pop-funk, power pop, space rock vibes, and pop and R&B from the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, just like the rest of the album. The song’s upbeat, overtly pop style won over critics and listeners.

Dua Lipa’s successful comeback in the 1980s influenced groups like The Weeknd. Her success is clouded by the startling resemblance between her hit and previous, obscure songs.
