Helen Snell, an artist, has joined the Torbay Hospital Trust to improve the wellness of its personnel. A hospital trust has just recruited an artist in the hopes of improving the overall health and happiness of its employees.
As an artist in residence for the Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust for the next 18 months, Helen Snell has joined the organization.
Ms. Snell will interact with teams to “help beautify workplaces by creating temporary and permanent artworks and installations,” according to the bosses.
NHS Charities Together provided financial support for the initiative.
Ms. Snell said:
“The fact that I have been given such an incredible chance has both humbled and inspired me.
“I intend to develop tactics that record experiences while working in collaboration with staff members, and I also hope to reinvent and reorganize the locations where they can have a little bit of downtime and are able to converse freely with colleagues and unwind.
“I hope that I will be able to support and channel their ideas in order for us to become co-creators and collaborators, and that together we will be able to make all workers feel appreciated and visible.”
Ms. Snell has a background in digital art, laser cutting, and printmaking, and she has worked as an artist and researcher in the heritage, museum, and education sectors. Her areas of expertise include heritage and museum studies.
She continued by saying, “Ultimately, we can start to reinvent how health care, from hospital settings to care in the community, is viewed and experienced by staff members, patients, and visitors alike.”
