Karaikkudi, the well-known Indian drummer, died away in Chennai on Thursday, May 4, 2023. When he passed away, he was 77 years old. Hindu Tamil businesswoman Krithika Sivaswamy paid respect to Mani, describing him as a legend and mridangam master while expressing her sorrow. “The legendary mridangam master is no more!” she exclaimed. Mani made a significant contribution to Indian classical music, particularly in the area of percussion. He gained recognition and admirers all over the world for his skill on the mridangam and his ability to infuse it with his style and inventiveness.

Renowned musician Kaaraikkudi was born in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, on September 11, 1945. He was brought to Smt. Pattammal and Late Sri. T. Ramanatha Iyer. Several well-known gurus, including Sri T R Hari Hara Sharma, Sri K M Vaidyanathan, and Karaikudi Sri Rangu Iyengar, helped him refine his musical abilities.
To further his studies in music, he relocated to Chennai, where he studied with Harihara Sharma. When Radhakrishnan, the Indian president at the time, gave Kaaraikkudi Mani his first national award at the age of 18, it was acknowledged that he had extraordinary musical skills.
At eight, Mani had his stage debut in Karaikudi. His development of the Karakudi Mani Bhani, which captured the hearts of many young percussionists and music lovers worldwide, was the product of his laborious efforts and devotion to the art form.
