An assault on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, killed Ashli. She was among the Trump loyalists who stormed the Capitol to overturn his 2020 presidential loss.
Babbitt was shot in the left shoulder by a US Capitol Police officer while climbing through a shattered glass close to a barred entrance to access the Speaker’s Lobby. Ashli Babbitt Parents
Micki Wittgoeft became politically active after her daughter Babbitt died. Paul Gosar presented her at a Donald Trump event in July 2021, and the crowd gave her a standing ovation. Trump offered his sympathies to Witthoeft and noted that Babbitt died for his presidency during the event.
In a subsequent interview, Witthoeft said she was writing supporting letters to those jailed on January 6 and that her daughter had sacrificed a lot to raise attention to what she considered was a stolen election.
She said, “Half the country loves her and half the country hates her.” Babbitt’s activities had drawn praise and controversy. It’s strange to let your child join the world.”
When asked about Michael Mraynard’s words, the organizer of the Justice for J6 demonstration devoted to Babbitt, Babbitt’s husband said he didn’t want violence in his wife’s name.
