As she appears on her first Vogue cover at the age of 82, Miriam Margolyes claims she “wouldn’t want to be straight for anything.”
The actress exuded excitement while posing for colorful photographs and talking about how she has “never had any shame” about her sexuality.
She remarked,
“Gay people are incredibly blessed because we are not traditional.”
Miriam came out as a lesbian in 1966, a time when homosexuality was against the law, and became well-known for her famous TV and film performances and candor in interviews.
She also experienced the 1980s HIV epidemic, during which she lost 34 friends.
“I never felt ashamed of anything, even my sexual orientation. Because it was me, I was sure it wasn’t illegal. I couldn’t possibly be a criminal, she told the fashion publication.
The distinguished actress admitted that she had resented telling her parents about her sexual orientation because she felt they had rejected it.
She claimed,
“I don’t want to hurt people, and it hurt them.”
Margolyes has had a long career in television and cinema, working on shows including Blackadder, Vanity Fair, and Harry Potter.
Her outrageous tales frequently go viral, and she has frequently made news for her wonderfully candid interviews.
If you’re not scared to be yourself, it’s a powerful position, she told Vogue.
“All of us are so insecure. People are frequently terrified, therefore my goal has always been to help them feel confident.
She is highlighted in the July issue of British Vogue together with other “LGBT+ pioneers,” such as Ncuti Gatwa and Emma D’Arcy.
The 82-year-old is seen on the cover with the caption “pride and joy” and is wearing a stylish mesh headgear while being cloaked in blue satin.
Dame Judi Dench, who turned 85 in 2020, was the oldest celebrity ever to grace the cover of British Vogue in the magazine’s 104-year existence.
Editor-in-chief of British Vogue Edward Enninful hailed the magazine’s April issue, which featured the publication’s first handicapped models, as one of his proudest professional achievements.
Enninful, a well-known advocate for more diversity in the fashion business, made it known earlier this month that she would be leaving the position.
