The Swati tribe, which is the dominant land-owning tribe in the districts of Mansehra and Battagram, is represented by Pakistani politician and businessman Azam Khan Swati. He served as Pakistan’s federal minister for science and technology from 2006 to 2011.
He was chosen to be the vice president of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-senior Insaf.
Swati was a prominent philanthropist who served in the Pakistani American Congress while living in the nation and ran a chain of stores.
He was born in Mansehra, in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. He adopted Islam and joined Jamiat Ulema.
Azam Khan Swati left the Senate on December 17, 2011, and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam merged with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
Former religious affairs minister Hamid Saeed Kazmi was ultimately fired by the administration after Swati aggressively pursued the Hajj corruption case in the Supreme Court.
He was again elected to the Senate in the 2018 election on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ticket.
He served as Prime Minister Imran Khan’s federal minister for parliamentary affairs from April 18, 2019, to April 6, 2020.
Azam Swati Sparks Controversy For His Tweet Again
The PTI leader, Senator Azam Khan Swati, was detained once more on Sunday for disparaging senior military officers.
The PTI leader was captured from his farmhouse in Chak Shahzad, Islamabad, early on Sunday morning.
According to sources, the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cybercrime Wing detained Swati for insulting the army chief and other senior military figures.
Sources claim that because of his tweets, a first information report (FIR) was filed against him.
The senator angered the political and social establishments by disparaging the army chief and several senior military figures on Twitter.
Swati insulted General Qamar Javed Bajwa, the departing Chief of Army Staff, and Major General Faisal Naseer.
Major General Naseer, who had forewarned him that he would pay a price, was mentioned by the PTI senator.
On every front, I’ll take Major General Naseer on. Swati declared on social media, “I will use every legal and ethical avenue against him.
Faisal Karim Kundi, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) on Poverty Alleviation and Social Safety, condemned the remarks.
According to Kundi, the PTI leader could only speak on social media, and the purpose of these statements was to placate the adversarial governments.
According to the SAPM, “If he has any evidence, he should provide it, and if it holds water, then we are standing with him.”
Azam Swati Arrest And Charged Due To His Tweet
The PTI leader has been detained twice by the FIA as a result of his divisive tweets.
Last month, the FIA detained Swati and brought him to court from his residence in Islamabad.
The senator was granted bail in exchange for one million rupee surety bonds. The government has requested that Swati’s case-related bail be revoked by the Islamabad High Court.
In response to the state’s complaint, the FIA submitted a first information (FIR) report via Technical Assistant Aneesur Rehman of the Islamabad Cyber Crime Reporting Centre (CCRC).
The PTI chairman, Imran Khan, condemned the arrest and expressed shock and outrage at how quickly the nation was becoming “not just a banana republic, but a fascist state.”
In October, Swati was detained for criticizing governmental institutions on Twitter. After his arrest, Shireen Mazari, a prominent PTI politician and former minister for human rights, wrote open letters to global human rights organizations pleading for his prompt release.
In an open letter to the Human Rights Committee in Geneva and the Special Rapporteur on Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (by Human Rights Council resolution 34/19), the PTI leader emphasized Swati’s detention and “subsequent abuse.”
She claimed that a “regime change conspiracy” to topple Prime Minister Khan’s government and install an opposition-led coalition with a bloated cabinet largely made up of people on bail had caused Pakistan to enter a political crisis.
She went on to say that after the PTI won several by-elections held on July 17 in the Punjab province, “despite a concerted effort of rigging by the government, the Election Commission of Pakistan, and the State,” the government, “backed by the Establishment,” reacted with repressive measures.
Dr. Shahbaz Gill, a former special assistant to the prime minister for political communication, was detained by Islamabad Police outside Banigala Chowk in August 2022 for “making statements against state institutions and inciting the people to rebellion.”
At the Islamabad Kohsar Police Station, a case was started about him. Apparently, allegations of inciting people to violence against government officials and institutions were added to the FIR.
He was released in September after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) granted him bail.
