Body Found In The Coleraine Area In The Barry Freeman Missing Case

Police have said that the death of a man who had been missing in Coleraine over the holiday season is not being treated as suspicious after a corpse was found.

Barry Freeman was last seen in the Circular Road/Strand Road area of the Co. Derry town at around 7.40 p.m. on December 22.

The 44-year-old was last seen sporting a Santa bobble hat and a holiday sweater. Police asked vehicles with dashcam footage in the Circular/Strand Road area to contact them if they had any information on his whereabouts.

Members of the Community Rescue Service (CRS) searched the region during Christmas.

Officers had given up hunting for Mr. Freeman as of last night, said to a PSNI spokesperson, “after the recovery of a body in the Coleraine area” the day before.

At this moment, the death is not being considered suspicious, they added.

Mr. Freeman was employed by the Coleraine RightPrice furniture shop. A Company spokesperson paid tribute to their colleague in a statement that was posted on social media and expressed their “great regret” at his demise.

“Since 1999, Barry has been an important team member, and the entire crew will miss him. He was not only a close friend but also a coworker, the spokeswoman continued.

“On behalf of everyone at the right price, we would like to express our sincere sympathy and condolences to Barry’s family and friends during this difficult time. The PSNI and CRS deserve praise for their tireless work over the past week.

In a statement released Wednesday, a spokeswoman for Help Brings our Barry Home described the organization as “devastated”. Friends and family of Mr. Freeman set up a Facebook page to discuss the search for him.

In the coming trying times, they begged readers to keep Barry’s friends and family in their prayers.
