Sanders had two relationships throughout his life and fathered four children through them. Barry David Sanders was born in Wichita, Kansas, on July 16, 1968, to William and Shirley Sanders. Before going to Wichita North High School, Barry played juvenile football and basketball. Sanders did not take over as running back until the fourth game of his senior season when the previous player was banned for disciplinary reasons.
Sanders also attended Oklahoma State University and played for the Cowboys. From 1989 to 1998, Barry spent a decade of his professional career with the Detroit Lions. On July 27, 1999, the day before the Lions’ training camp began, Sanders announced his retirement from professional football.
