Before The Show, Memories Of Bernat Klein Are Solicited

Bernat Klein

A significant exhibition of Bernat Klein’s work is scheduled to open next month, so memories of the renowned designer and artist are being sought.

He was born in 1922 in what is now Serbia and spent more than 40 years living and working in the Borders before passing away in 2014.

National Museums Scotland (NMS) aims to gather testimonies from individuals who knew, collaborated with, or admired Klein.

The National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh will host the exhibition Bernat Klein: Design in Color from 5 November until 23 April.

Klein worked closely with talented Scottish manufacturers and took inspiration from the area around Galashiels and Selkirk.

Bernat Klein was well known for his creative textile design work for brands like Chanel and Dior.

In addition, he created ready-to-wear lines, served as a color consultant, and designed fabrics for interiors.

“Bernat Klein’s ideology affected fashion, fine art, interior design, architecture, and color theory and continues to inspire artists and designers today,” said Lisa Mason, assistant curator at the NMS.

“We’d love to hear more from anyone who remembers his time here,” the organization said. “Bernat Klein selected Scotland to develop not just his home, but his business.”

Personal accounts can be submitted to [email protected], external, and will be compiled by NMS and possibly utilized on its social media accounts or digital channels.
