Bill Murray Is Facing Backlash After Celebrities Accused Him

Bill Murray

Actor Bill Murray has come under fire once more, this time for new allegations of improper behavior at work. Several famous people have recently come out against the Ghostbusters actor, including Geena Davis, Seth Green, and Rob Schneider.

When Green made an appearance on the Good Mythical Morning YouTube program, he talked about an event with Murray when the former was nine years old. Green reported an incident that occurred on the set of a Murray-hosted SNL episode with a Christmas theme:

“[Murray] made a huge issue over my taking his seat when he noticed me seated on the arm of this chair.” That is absurd, I remarked. I’m perched on the arm of the couch. There are many lengths available for this couch. Please leave.” That’s my chair, he added.

Murray was asked to get up from his chair by Green’s mother, but he refused. After the verbal altercation, Murray allegedly held Green “upside down” and threw him into a trash can:

He hauled me up by grabbing my ankles. I was flipped on my head… The trash goes in the garbage can, he said to me as he hung me over one.

I yelled while feverishly flailing my arms and making full contact with his butts. He threw me in the trash can, which then fell over. I felt stunned. I ran off quickly, hiding under the dressing room table, and shouted.

The fresh accusation follows the reported suspension of Being Mortal’s production because of a complaint of “inappropriate conduct” directed at actor Bill Murray.

Complaints made against Bill Murray

Following Seth Green’s latest allegations of Bill Murray’s improper behavior, several more famous people made comparable charges. Actress Geena Davis spoke about her experience working with Murray on the 1990 movie Quick Change in her book Dying of Politeness. The New York Times reported that Davis said Murray yelled at her for being late while she waited to change clothes:

“That was awful. The way he behaved during the initial meeting… If I had quit or fiercely defended myself, I would not have been cast in the part.

“I might have avoided such treatment if I had known how to react or what to do at the audition.” However, I was so carefree that I just didn’t.

In her biography, Davis also asserted that Murray forced her to use “massage equipment” over her objections:

I repeatedly told him no, but he ignored me. I would have had to shout at him and make a scene to get him to stop trying to force me to do it; the other males in the room did nothing to stop it.

Davis admitted feeling bad for blaming for a Murray-related incident on her younger self:

“Regretting is meaningless, but here I was regretting,” Furthermore, I was not at fault in any way.

Actor Rob Schneider claimed that Bill Murray “absolutely disliked” the cast of Saturday Night Live on NBC while he was the show’s host. On The Jim Norton & Sam Roberts Show on SiriusXM, Schneider spoke out against Murray, saying:

“Bill Murray is coming and he’s going to change the language,” the director said. You never know who you’re going to get, but he’s going to improve things. Will you be getting which Bill Murray? Bill Murray, the cordial character? Or will you receive the stern Bill Murray?'”

Murray was not good to his co-stars, he added, despite his politeness to fans:

“He’s incredibly generous with fans,” He wasn’t exactly cordial with us. He hated us back when he was hosting Saturday Night Live. They completely detested us. I’m talking raging.

Bill Murray detested the late Chris Farley, according to Schneider as well:

He had a ferocious hatred for Chris Farley. He looked at him like he was mad. I’m not sure why, but I’d like to imagine that Chris thought it was cool to be that out of control because he thought it was awesome to be Belushi, who [was] his friend who died.

The comic clarified, though, that Murray’s dislike of Farley might be brought on by his interpretation:

That’s how I understand it, but I’m not sure. In my opinion, no. “Only half the time do I believe it,”

You know, he just wasn’t in the mood for it. And you could see the crowd devour Sandler as soon as he entered the stage because he was that committed to it.

In addition to Schneider’s allegations, SNL producer Lorne Michaels recently disclosed information about an argument Bill Murray and Chevy Chase had during the season of the show. On the Fly on the Wall podcast with David Spade and Dana Carvey, Michaels stated:

“They disagreed. And John [Belushi] gave it a little extra spark. Although it was partially my responsibility because I was bringing Chevy back to host the show after he had left for a season and a half, it was also understandable. Chevy was made to perform the monologue after they got into a brawl in front of the page desk.

Bill Murray mistreated Anjelica Huston while they were filming Life Aquatic: Evolution, the actress claimed in an interview with Vulture a few years ago.

“On Life Aquatic, he treated me badly. He asked everyone but me to supper during the first week I was there when we were all at this tiny hotel.

Everyone showed up for dinner looking a little dog-faced because of my absence and saying, “Oh, you know, we don’t want to leave,” The worst of all was that.

Huston recognized Murray at her husband’s funeral years later despite their previous friendship. A well-known on-set altercation between Bill Murray and Charlie’s Angels co-star Lucy Liu also made headlines in 2000. Liu said to the Asian Enough podcast of the Los Angeles Times last year that Murray insulted her while working on a scene that had to be rewritten:

I won’t get into details, but Bill started yelling obscenities as we were filming the scene, and it just kept going. Wow, it looks like he’s looking right at me, I noticed. Since I had nothing important to do at the moment, I couldn’t believe [the comments] were directed at me.

Murray’s rhetoric was at times “inexcusable and rude,” according to Liu, but she doesn’t regret speaking out for herself at the time.

Twitter reacts to fresh Bill Murray assertions

Despite being one of Hollywood’s most well-known actors, Bill Murray has encountered several issues with unprofessional behavior on the set. Actresses including Lucy Liu and Anjelica Huston spoke out against Murray, which led to the earliest appearance of allegations of misconduct against him. More famous people have recently spoken out regarding related accusations.

Some social media users criticized Murray’s actions on Twitter in the wake of the new accusations:

Murray addressed the misbehavior claims made against him by the Being Mortal production team in April, despite not responding to the most recent accusations. CNBC quotes the actor as saying:

“I did something that I thought was funny, but it wasn’t taken that way,” To check everything out and conduct an investigation, the firm, the film studio, paused production. But for now, we’re conversing and trying to find harmony.

It’s uncertain if Bill Murray will address the new allegations against him in the coming days as internet reactions keep pouring in.
