Many hockey fans remember Blaine Lacher’s one-season wonder with the Boston Bruins in 1994. In a 2017 interview, Lacher was asked if being known for a brief career troubled him, and he replied that it never did. But Lacher admitted that he regretted ending his career prematurely and wished he had gone to Germany to play at a lower level and enjoy the game for a while. Lacher is survived by his son Quin Lacher, whom he raised alone in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
Boston Bruins Player Obituary and Death Cause
According to Blaine Lacher’s obituary, the former hockey player died suddenly on January 29. For years, the former Bruins player has kept a low profile. Blaine Lacher, a standout athlete at Lake Superior State, won the NCAA Championship in 1992.
A year later, he set the record for the longest straight scoreless streak at 375:01 minutes. Lacher’s college hockey record was 49-13-7 in three years. Despite his college record, no NHL team chose him. However, in 1994, the Boston Bruins considered taking a chance on him. The child startled everyone.
He had a fantastic rookie season, going 19-11-2. However, he could not maintain the spell in his second year. Bruins and Lacher struggled early in their second season, and Lacher was assigned to play for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
He played nine games for the Providence Bruins before being assigned to the Cleveland Lumberjacks of the International Hockey League. In 1996, Boston acquired his contract, and Lacher joined the Grand Rapids Griffins. According to a 2013 report, Lacher returned to Medicine Hat and worked for Goodyear, manufacturing tires. In addition, he was said to be involved with Medicine Hat’s minor hockey league.

Blaine Lacher’s family released a statement shortly after he died. Blaine’s family members were prominently featured in the message, including his parents, son Quin, and sisters. The statement further stated that a private family gathering would be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel.
Blaine may have been previously married but divorced, as his wife’s name is not mentioned anywhere. Blaine’s mother, Sandra Lacher, died on November 5, 2013, at the age of 70. His parents, Irwin and Sandra, had been married for 48 years when she died. Blaine has two sisters, Lana and Faye Lacher.
Faye Lacher is Maritime Travel’s branch manager, corporate consultant, and Medicine Hat College graduate. Faye has not made any posts on her Facebook page about her brother’s death. She was last active on the same day he died, with her most recent post discussing her job, Maritime Travel.
Faye has two children, Jordan and Nolan, and her daughter Jordan graduated from the University of Alberta last year. Lana, Blaine’s second sister, graduated from Medicine Hat College but is not on social media. Blaine’s son, Quin, was formerly said to have followed in his father’s footsteps and played hockey for the Medicine Hat Hounds in the SCAHL U18 division.
