American political analyst Bob Beckel passed away on February 21, 2022, at the age of 73. On Facebook, longtime friend and colleague journalist Cal Thomas posted the following notice of his passing:
“Bob Beckel, my friend, and spiritual brother, is now with the Lord whom he adored.”
Sean Hannity, a political commentator on Fox News, also announced Beckel’s passing, saying:
He “was always overflowing with joy, happiness, light, and sunshine.” We already miss him, and he loved God and Jesus. Godspeed to both Bob Beckel and you.
Beckel’s cause of death has not yet been established. But he supposedly struggled with addiction in the past. On a 2011 episode of The Five, the host described himself as a “recovering junkie.”
Due to “health-related challenges,” Beckel missed work in 2015, according to Fox. Later, it was determined that he had undergone extensive back surgery at a hospital in New York.
The former co-host of The Five, Bob Beckel was a political analyst, columnist, and commentator for Fox News. He was conceived on November 15, 1948, in Connecticut by Cambridge Graham Beckel Jr. and Ellen Gilliland.
After graduating from Staten Island’s Wagner College in 1968, the newscaster started working for Robert F. Kennedy’s presidential campaign. He served as a Peace Corps volunteer in the Philippines from 1971 and 1972.
Beckel worked as a graduate school professor of politics at George Washington University before he joined the US Department of State in 1997.
He worked there until 1980 when he was appointed the youngest deputy assistant secretary of state for legislative affairs during the Carter administration.
The analyst established Bob Beckel & Associates, a consulting firm, in 1984 while working as Walter Mondale’s presidential campaign manager. In 2002, he managed Alan Blinken’s campaign for the US Senate in Idaho.
In 2011, Beckel began working for Fox News as a co-host of The Five, where she appeared in more than 700 episodes. He was dismissed from the program in 2015 as a result of health issues. The year after, he was hired by CNN to be a political analyst.
After rejoining The Five in 2017, the media personality was let off by the Fox network due to an alleged racial epithet shouted at another worker. He worked as a journalist for USA Today from 2005 and 2015 with his close friend and political rival Cal Thomas.
In his 2015 book, I Should Be Dead: My Life Surviving Politics, TV, and Addiction, Beckel discussed his struggles with alcoholism and experiences of addiction that nearly killed him.
Following the news of Beckel’s passing, a large number of people raced to Twitter to express their condolences. It is evident from the online condolences that Beckel will be missed by his loved ones, friends, coworkers, and well-wishers. Leland Ingham, his former spouse, and their two children are still alive.
