Bob Knight, a backup forward at Orrville High School, competed on the NCAA Championship-winning 1960 Ohio State Buckeyes squad. After receiving his diploma in 1962, he stopped playing and started teaching.

He oversaw the junior varsity basketball program at Ohio’s Cuyahoga Falls High School for a single season. Bob Knight wed Nancy Falk, his first wife, in that year. He wed on April 17, 1963. However, they got a divorce in 1985.

After his divorce, he kept coaching, and Indiana University hired him in 1971. His greatest accomplishment was shown in the highlights video after the Indiana Hoosiers won the NCAA Championship in 1976 by defeating Michigan 86-68 in the championship game. The Hoosiers went unbeaten the whole season.

However, he was charged with assault on March 14, 2000, when former teammate Nei Reed alleged that Knight choked him during a 1997 practice.

The Hoosiers won 662 games over his 29 years as Indiana’s head coach, including 22 seasons with at least 20 victories, including the 1987 NCAA tournament, which Keith Smart won with five seconds left on a game-winning jump shot.
