Bobby started his career as a baseball player. He was a shortstop and pitcher for the school squad in high school. Later, he was recruited to play college baseball with the Arizona Wildcats, where he was a third baseman, first baseman, and bullpen pitcher. During his undergraduate career, he appeared in games such as the National Collegiate Athletic Association, the Cape Cod Baseball League as Orleans Firebirds, the 2016 College World Series, and many others.

In 2016, he was drafted in the fourth round by the Boston Red Sox of Major League Baseball. He made his professional debut with the Class A Short Season Lowell Spinners, where he batted.386/.427/.674 in 34 games, with 7 home runs and 33 RBIs.

In 78 games with the Greenville Drive of the Class A South Atlantic League in 2017, he batted.246/.345/.437 with 13 home runs and 39 RBIs. In addition, he batted.259 in seven rehab games with the GCL Red Sox.
