Jobe attended UCLA and was a member of the 1988 NCAA Division I Men’s Championship squad. He began his professional career the same year. In 1990, he dominated the Canadian Tour’s order of merit. Furthermore, he gains PGA Tour membership through Qualifying School in 1991, but only makes five cuts that year. During one of his few unsteady seasons, he won the Asia Golf Circuit Order Merit in 1995. Furthermore, he makes a name for himself on the Japan Golf Tour, where he competed from 1995 to 1999 and won six tournaments.

In September 1999, he returned to the PGA Tour as a special temporary member. Despite a freak accident in his home garage, he has continued to play on a regular basis. After slashing his hand and wounding three fingers with a shattered push-broom in 2003, he required significant hand and wrist surgery. He has never won a tournament on the PGA Tour, although he has tied for the second four times, including twice in 2005 while competing under a major medical exemption.

He finished 30th on the 2010 Nationwide Tour, which was not enough to earn him a PGA Tour card. Despite this, he was spared from the final level of Q School, where he finished sixth and obtained his 2011 card. In June 2011, he tied for second place at the Memorial Tournament, one stroke behind Steve Stricker, his best finish in six years.

He won the Champions Tour qualifying school, earning him a spot on the tour in 2016. On June 11, 2017, he won his first Champions Tour event with a 14-under-par total of 202 at the Principal Charity Classic. He also won his second PGA Tour Champions title at the Boeing Classic.
