When Sound City Ipswich returns the following year, it will be known as Brighten The Corners. It made its debut as a one-day event in 2019 before making a comeback the following year over five venues and two days.
It has also been revealed that the event on June 9 and 10 will be sponsored by the University of Suffolk.
The new name, according to the event’s organizer Joe Bailey, who works with the town’s Smokehouse venue, “sums up our aim to shine a spotlight on our underappreciated part of the country,”
The title of the fourth studio album by the American band Pavement inspired the song Brighten The Corners.
The festival and Sound City Liverpool, which began in 2008, previously collaborated.
The event will take place in five venues again next year and feature performances by more than 70 performers.
Mr. Bailey remarked: “For Ipswich in 2023, we are thrilled to introduce our new festival brand.
“We take great pride in our independent festival’s efforts to draw attention to our wonderful city.
Ipswich has so much promise in terms of culture.
Tim Greenacre, chief operating officer of the University of Suffolk, stated that the school and its students’ union would collaborate with the festival’s organizers.
It “should give Suffolk’s music and cultural scene a huge boost,” he said.
The recently renovated Baths and St. Stephen’s Church are two of the five locations.
