Brooklyn-based Bishop Lamor Whitehead, who garnered attention last summer after being robbed during a live-streamed church service, is being charged with wire fraud and extortion.

Whitehead, 45, is accused of crimes against one of his parishioners and a businessman on two counts of wire fraud, one count of extortion, and one count of making false statements, according to federal prosecutors.

Whitehead, who is well-known for his bright attire, flashy possessions, and other spectacular displays of wealth, is the pastor of the Leaders of Tomorrow International Churches in New York City.

In July, Whitehead and his wife were robbed of $1 million in goods after gunmen broke into their church.

After this incident, Whitehead’s extravagant lifestyle came under fire. Some even questioned the robbery’s morality. But the theft resulted in the detention of two men.

People are attempting to learn more about the situation that resulted in Brooklyn Bishop’s arrest after his arrest.

He was reportedly accused of fraud but has maintained his innocence.

Whitehead proclaimed his innocence in a 15-minute Instagram video that was uploaded on Tuesday in response to the news of the federal charges brought against him.

The bishop is innocent, Whitehead continues in the film as he reclines in front of two happy portraits of himself. I’ll fight against it as well. I also have God, which is more important than having the best legal team.

Whitehead is charged with employing threats and deception to induce people to give him cash, which he then reportedly used to treat himself to luxury.

One of Whitehead’s congregants allegedly agreed to deposit around $90,000 of her retirement funds between April 2020 and July 2021.

On the premise that he would help her locate lodgings and use a portion of the money for investments in his real estate projects, the bishop consented to this.

Whitehead is accused of spending the money on himself, according to the accusation against him.

According to the indictment, Whitehead forced an unnamed businessman to give over a significant amount of money in a different incident.

Allegedly, sometime in the spring of 2022, Whitehead persuaded the businessman to give the church Leader $500,000 and a stake in particular real estate deals.

The prosecution alleges that the defendant was promised “favorable acts” in return from the New York City government, which would have benefited Whitehead and himself.

Brooklyn Bishop is detained on suspicion of fraud

Brooklyn preacher Lamor Whitehead was arrested on charges of federal financial fraud in July after being robbed of a sizable amount of jewelry while giving a sermon.

The 44-year-old preacher, also known as Bishop Whitehead, who earned the moniker “bling bishop,” allegedly “bullied a businessman for $5,000, then tried to cheat him of substantially more than that,” according to Damian Williams, the Manhattan U.S. attorney.

The prosecution claims that Whitehead promised to help one of his parishioners buy a new home in exchange for her taking a $90,000 withdrawal from her retirement account.

“I am a man of integrity, and you will not lose,” Whitehead wrote the victim, but the authorities contend that he spent the money on lavish items.
