He played Dr. Dan Cain in Stuart Gordon’s science fiction horror picture Re-Animator (1985). In the Bride of Re-Animator (1990) sequel, he played the same character again.
Later, he starred alongside Lori Singer and Kathy Bates in the period drama Summer Heat (1987). Then, in 1988, Abbot starred in Andrew Fleming’s horror picture Bad Dreams. He made an appearance in the comedy Casual Sex? (1989) a year later.
Abbott starred in his first main role as Channing Taylor in the 1988 futuristic television movie Out of Time.

Another question that often comes up when discussing Hamilton’s ex-husband is whether or not his successful 1985 comedy-horror movie Re-Animator will receive a theatrical release.
In the movie, a scientist turns up at a college in New England and starts doing weird experiments on his roommate and his roommate’s girlfriend. They begin with human cadavers and work their way up to feline tissue. There are numerous homicides and frantic, violent, zombie-like chaos that ensues. Bride of Re-Animator and Beyond Re-Animator are the two sequels that came from the film.
In 2011, Bruce responded to a question regarding the potential for a remake by saying,
“I never saw the need to remake it because I saw the originals.” Kind of grateful for it (the remake). It’s just prickly.
The most recent information regarding this matter was provided by Indie Wire in September 2016, when they hinted at the next Re-Animator film, which will be helmed by Sergen and starring Jonathan Schaech. Likewise, Re-Animator: Evolution was supposed to be the title.
Nevertheless, there hasn’t been a reliable follow-up to that piece as of yet.
