The lady said that after meeting Whitehead at the Florida Mall, she went on many trips with him.
At their penultimate stop, the victim said Whitehead tried to murder her and sexually assaulted her, but she was able to fight him off.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said on Thursday that officers had arrested a man they called a “brutal rapist.”
The 54-year-old Bruce Whitehead was taken into custody on Thursday morning after the sheriff’s office allegedly got a tip.
On December 10 along Pine Hills Road near North Lane, Whitehead is accused of raping and dismembering the victim.
Sheriff Evan Avila stated, “This is without a doubt one of the more serious violations in my tenure here at the sheriff’s office.”
The sheriff’s office corporal with the Sex Crime Unit described this case as one of the worst he has ever seen in an interview with WESH 2 on Wednesday afternoon. He definitely fits my description of a monster, said Avila. That is the way I see things.
On Saturday, December 10, just before 4 a.m., according to deputies, Whitehead kidnapped, raped, mutilated, and attempted to murder a lady close to North Lane and North Pine Hills Road.

The sheriff’s office claims that Whitehead was convicted in Duval County of kidnapping, raping, and attempting to kill another woman in the 1980s. He served 20 years in jail before being released in 2007.
The victim has received services, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office anticipates that she will recover. In a news conference, Avila said that once the woman managed to flee, bystanders assisted her and then dialed 911.
Police were able to identify the suspect’s vehicle throughout the investigation and identify Whitehead as their suspect. An arrest warrant has been amended to include charges of attempted murder, armed kidnapping, and armed sexual battery.
Whitehead had already been convicted of kidnapping, armed sexual assault, and attempted first-degree murder. The rapist received a 20-year jail term.

According to News 6 Law Enforcement Analyst and former Orlando Police Chief Orlando Rolon, if issues like this are to be avoided, the legal system needs to become more “prudent” going forward.
