Carla Wallace, NASCAR driver Mike Wallace’s wife, died after a four-year battle with ovarian cancer. Carla and Mike have been married for over 40 years.
Wallace posted the terrible news on his Facebook page. The couple had three children, one of whom followed in their father’s footsteps. Mike Wallace comes from a family of racecar drivers. His two brothers, Rusty Wallace and Kenny Wallace, competed in NASCAR.
Wallace received significant criticism for a social media post in 2020 and was suspended indefinitely for breaking the Behavioural Sections policy. He was reinstated in 2021, and his final Xfinity Series outing occurred in July 2020, at the Pennzoil 150 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, driving for JD Motorsports.

Mike Wallace’s wife, Carla Wallace, was his companion for 44 years. The couple married in their late teens and had three children: daughters Chrissy and Lindsey and son Matt. Mike shared the devastating news of his wife’s death on his Facebook page.
The NASCAR driver hurried to Facebook and posted a photo of Carla. In a note to the editor, he wrote, “I am devastated by my beautiful wife, Carla, passed away at 5:44 today from a four-year battle against Ovarian Cancer, and yes, Cancer sucks.”
Thousands of his admirers, as well as those close to him and Carla, left tributes in the comments. On January 21, Mike disclosed that his wife was fighting for her life in the hospital. He shared a flashback shot of himself and Carla from their wedding day, as well as photos of Carla with her grandchildren and on the podium at one of his races.
Wallace stated Carla didn’t want anyone to know about her ongoing cancer treatment. She also advised her family not to discuss the condition with anybody outside the home. Wallace asked his supporters to pray for his wife and produce a miracle. Carla and Mike had to postpone their 32nd wedding anniversary party in 2011 due to Mike’s decision to participate at Talladega Superspeedway.
During the post-race interview, Mike stated that he did not discuss the racing experience with Carla. But the racer claimed his wife understood how much it meant to him. Mike eventually won, and giving up on the vacation was not viewed negatively.
Many race fans may be aware of Mike Wallace’s youngest daughter, Chrissy Wallace. Chrissy chose to follow in her father’s footsteps, making the father-daughter relationship popular in 2009. Chrissy’s racing career began in 2007 at the age of 19. She became the first female driver to win at Hickory Motor Speedway.
A year later, she made her NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series debut, finishing eighth. Chrissy and Mike made history in 2009 as the first father-daughter combo to compete in a national series event. They competed in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Mountain Dew 250. Chrissy last raced in 2011 and has kept a low profile since.
In an interview in 2011, Chrissy stated that her goal was to compete in the Truck Series in 2012. Last June, her uncle, Kenny Wallace, made a brief mention of her in a YouTube video. Kenny stated that Chrissy had to leave her NASCAR dream owing to a lack of sponsors. Chrissy is active on Facebook and has shared countless family photos.

Lindsey Wallace Van Wingerden, Mike and Carla’s eldest daughter, chose a career path different from her father. Lindsey, a Morgan Stanley project manager and event coordinator, graduated from UNC Charlotte. She is married to Thomas Van Wingerden, and they have three children. The couple welcomed their first child, Thomas Jr., in 2017 and their second child, daughter Ellie, in 2020.
Lindsey and Thomas welcomed their newest family member, Grayson Michael Van Wingerden, into the world on January 15. Lindsey, Mike, Carla, and Thomas were assaulted in 2016 after seeing Rascal Flatts play. Mike was beaten and kicked several times, while Lindsey was presumably kicked in the ribs. Three people were ultimately detained and charged with assault.

Matt Wallace, the family’s youngest member, wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps. Matt’s racing career began in 2015 when he was 19. He competed in the Xfinity Series for JGL Racing but never became a star.
In an interview, Matt stated that his father never urged him to race and has been his staunchest supporter. Matt is on Instagram, but he keeps his account private. Matt is shown in his display image alongside his wife, who appears to be pregnant.
