Casey Stengel, an American professional baseball player, was also a manager with a career spanning more than five decades. Throughout his tenure, he was best known as the manager of the New York Yankees. It was the same squad he led to seven World Series victories.
He played outfield for the National League Brooklyn Dodgers using his left hand. Later, he played for the Pittsburgh Pirates for a year, the Philadelphia Phillies from 1920 to 1921, and numerous other clubs.
Surprisingly, he hit 339 home runs for the New York Giants and helped them win two World Series games in 1923.
He was also known for his funny double-talk, and he had a moniker, “The Old Professor.” His popularity stemmed from his pranks rather than his baseball acumen. But he’s no longer with us. He passed away in 1975.
