If you frequently use dating apps or Netflix, Cecilie Fjellhy may be a familiar face to you. She was one of the unfortunate stars of the popular Netflix documentary The Tinder Swindler about con artist Simon Leviev.
One of the ladies, Cecilie, claims that Leviev, the actual name Shimon Hayut, pretended to be a wealthy heir to defraud them of thousands of pounds.
The 34-year-old is prepared to find love once more after five years. This time, she will be seen on the reality television program Celebs Go Dating, where a cast of celebs will go on dates with regular people.
Speaking at the series premiere, Cecilie stated, “I don’t feel like a celeb, and I don’t want people to think that I look at myself as a celeb.
But she tells Newsbeat, “I truly appreciate that my face is recognized around the world.
And I’m grateful that I can participate in Celebs Go Dating and display a new side of myself.
Cecilie is maybe more hopeful about dating than you might anticipate after discussing her experience.
“For me, dating has always been enjoyable. And I always strive to make it fun again,” she adds.
She claims that watching Celebs Go Dating has helped her see “new things,” before adding, “Because I’m notorious for picking awful people.”
She even claims to be back on Tinder, which is true. Because I met him, she adds, “I never looked at Tinder as the one to blame for what happened to me.”
But I believe I returned to the applications a little too quickly.
Cecilie faced misogynistic remarks after the release of The Tinder Swindler, but she also received a lot of sympathy from viewers.
She claims that some members of the incel movement—men who identify as involuntarily celibate—called her a “gold digger” and that she deserved to be taken advantage of.
Cecilie anticipates some backlash as a result of her appearance on the dating show.
I’ve learned not to read it since trolling usually happens, she says.
“I believe it’s critical to shed light on those remarks.
“All of these things have the potential to be hazardous. Though it’s entertaining to joke about it, doing so repeatedly can be risky.
Cecilie promotes a greater understanding of romance fraud and demands that police and medical professionals receive specialized training to better assist victims.
She also wants to contribute to lessening the stigma associated with scams so that those who are victims may feel less embarrassed about seeking assistance.
She also calls Leviev being a free man “disheartening.”
