Stanley graduated from the University of Richmond in Richmond, Virginia, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas is where he later earned his Master of Divinity.

Luther Rice Seminary, which was once located in Florida but is currently located in Lithonia, Georgia, is where Dr. Stanley earned his doctorate and master’s in theology.

From 1957 until 1959, Stanley served as the pastor of Fruitland Baptist in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

He began working for the Fairborn, Ohio, First Baptist in 1959 and continued until 1962. Afterward, from 1962 to 1968, worked for First Baptist of Miami, Florida.

In the same way, Dr. Stanley worked in 1968 at First Baptist in Bartow. Stanley was finally named associate pastor of the First Baptist Church of Atlanta on October 1, 1969.

In 1971, Stanley started his fifty-year stint as the senior pastor of First Baptist Atlanta. The next year, he launched his broadcast ministry with “The Chapel Hour,” a 30-minute show that aired on TV stations in the Atlanta region, including WANX, WXIA, and WANF.

In Touch with Dr. Charles Stanley replaced “The Chapel Hour” as the name of the nationally televised program in 1978.

Stanley retired as preacher emeritus of First Baptist Atlanta in September 2020 after serving as lead pastor for 50 years.
