Chelsea Dungee attributes everything she is now in the top league to her mother. In 2021, Chelsea Dungee’s dream of playing basketball professionally came true. She was chosen by the Dallas Wings of the WNBA in the opening round of the 2021 WNBA Draft.

I don’t think Chelsea has ever not wanted to play basketball and get to the NBA. She is 24 years old, and the WNBA is currently in its 25th season; in some respects, they grew up together and were destined to be.
Chelsea Dungee had a fantastic future ahead of her thanks to her upbringing in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where she learned to play in the mud. She began attracting journalists’ notice when she was 14 years old.
With all the attention and praise, her mother Chi Dungee had her work cut out for her. And she did a great job of carrying the weight of raising a potential superstar. Chi, a social worker and lone parent made many sacrifices for Chelsea. She gave up several things.
She gave up her goals so that I could pursue mine. Taking time off of work to watch games, and constantly looking for sponsors to help me, she said People.
Chi gave everything up to ensure Chelsea’s success. She took her to sporting events and the gym, and even exercised, jogged, and trained alongside her. But Chi had a different perspective.
When Chelsea expresses gratitude, she responds that she didn’t make a sacrifice because she did it out of want. Throughout her high school and college years, Chi never missed a Chelsea home game.
And that custom is expected to carry on now that she is playing in the major leagues. She is quite close to Chi, who still lives in Oklahoma because the Wings drafted her. According to Chelsea, who spoke to the New York Times, “I’m just about three and a half hours from her and about five hours from Arkansas.”
challenging childhood
Chelsea came from a difficult family. She loves her mother and father and appreciates all they have done for her, but she had a lot of limitations as a child. For instance, social workers were poorly compensated.
Additionally, the mother-daughter pair usually did not have enough money for meals each night. They managed to get through everything, and Chelsea quickly made herself known. She started collecting awards from her impressive high school career.
However, during her sophomore year of high school, their house caught fire. That included her possessions, attire, and awards. Chi and Chelsea Dungee stayed at a hotel for a while.
After a few months, they decided to rent a home because they couldn’t afford to restore their own. The incident caused Chelsea to appear to catch fire. She overcame that challenge with the help of her mother and the will to achieve in the sport she cherished.
Following that, her career took off. Chelsea completed her undergraduate program at the University of Arkansas. And right now, she is moving forward with her plan to make history with the Dallas Wings.
