Choi Jung-hoon Apologized For The Band’s Behavior During

Choi Jung-hoon

On August 6, Choi Jung-hoon, a current member of the South Korean independent rock group JANNABI, issued a formal apology for the group’s actions during the 2022 Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival.

The singer issued an apology on August 7 to the other musicians and their followers for the distress his “careless words” had caused.

The band member was involved in a controversy about his behavior, with many claiming that he was rude to other performers. The Take My Hand singer responded by apologizing and promising that going forward, the group will be more careful to choose the right words to convey their message:

We were unable to control our excitement while performing in front of an amazing crowd and made careless comments that upset other bands and audience members. Although we didn’t mean it that way, we were unaware that it might be taken that way. We’ll be careful not to make the same mistake again. Many thanks for attending!

What did JANNABI’s Choi Jung-hoon say during the Pentaport Rock Festival in 2022?

Several performers have been confirmed to perform at the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival in 2022, including the well-known indie rock band JANNABI. Nell, Vampire Weekend, JAURIM, Japanese Breakfast, and other artists are on the festival’s lineup.

The American rock group Vampire Weekend, the festival’s headlining act, was scheduled to perform after JANNABI. According to allkpop, Choi Jung-hoon of JANNABI received criticism for his comments from several South Korean internet users.

Everything seemed to be going smoothly until the singer reflected on the group’s humble beginnings, at which point things started to go apart. According to a quote from Choi Jung-hoon:

“In 2017, we were the very first act on the smallest stage as the Pentaport super rookies.” But we got all the way here by taking small steps. The barrier wasn’t that far away. The identity of the upcoming band is unknown. Please make your way home, everyone. Our song, “Come Back Home,” will be performed by us before we leave.

Some have even asserted that JANNABI’s unscheduled encore delayed Vampire Weekend. Currently, JANNABI comprises three people. Kim Do-Hyung, the band’s guitarist, enlisted in the military in June 2020, while Jang Kyung-Joon, the bassist, enlisted in the military in January 2021. Lead singer Choi Jung-hoon still works on solo projects to advertise the band.

The 2022 Pentaport Rock Festival revived with a member of BTS in attendance after a two-year hiatus.
One of the biggest rock festivals in South Korea is the Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival. It primarily focuses on rock and electronic music, while it also includes folk and emo music. A BTS member was also present at the event this year.

BTS’s leader RM tweeted pictures of himself on the Songdo Moonlight Festival Park lawn on August 7 when the Incheon Pentaport stage was in full display in front of him. He also posted a picture with the leader of BTS’s good buddies, the alternative K-pop band Balming Tiger.

Since the festival had been held online for the previous two years due to the outbreak, its return to a physical stage also garnered media attention. The occasion happened between August 5 and 7, 2022.
