Chris Bailey, the Australian vocalist, and lyricist for the legendary punk band The Saints passed away at the age of 65. The band revealed in a statement that the vocalist had passed away on April 9, 2022, indicating that he was no longer alive.

Bailey was the longest-serving member of the ensemble, and he also released a number of solo albums. The singer’s cause of demise remains unknown. Additionally, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) confirmed Bailey’s passing:

“Chris Bailey, the pioneering lead singer of the Brisbane band The Saints, has passed away… Our thoughts and prayers are with Chris’ family, friends, and admirers.”

Following the news of the deceased singer’s passing, musicians and admirers took to social media to express their condolences.

Some admirers praised Bailey and his work, referring to him as a legend and a titan of punk music, while others praised him as an inspiration for future artists. Notably, The Saints’ Ed Kuepper tweeted that he met Bailey in prison when they were both 14 years old.

Bailey was born in Kenya to Irish parents in 1957. Before moving to Australia, he spent the first seven years of his existence in Belfast. In Brisbane, Australia, he met guitarist Ed Kuepper and percussionist Ivor Hay while still in high school.

1973 saw the formation of Kid Galahad and the Eternals by the aforementioned triumvirate. The band was renamed The Saints in 1974 and went on to become an Australian punk music pioneer.

The band’s first hit, the legendary punk hymn I’m Stranded, was followed in 1977 by the release of their self-titled debut album.
