Christine Ann ‘Chris’ Kapostasy was born on January 30, 1957, in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, as the youngest of 12 children to Tilly and Joseph Kapostasy.

Chris began her career after graduation as an intern for a small television station in Columbus, Ohio, before traveling to Ticonderoga, New York, to join the crew of its WIPS radio station.

She subsequently moved to Albany, New York, where she worked as a general assignment reporter for NBC affiliate WNYT. With her popularity growing, she soon rose through the ranks to become the show’s weekly co-anchor as well as the weekend anchor. Chris received a New York Emmy Award in 1997 for her outstanding work and coverage of the 1996 Centennial Olympic Park bombing in Atlanta, Georgia.

Jansing moved to NBC News in June 1998 after spending 17 years polishing her professional talents at the WNYT.

As one of MSNBC’s most regarded anchors and the host of its flagship midday news program “MSNBC Live,” Jansing covered a wide range of world events and important subjects, from sports to politics. Her extensive professional portfolio includes coverage of the September 11th attacks in 2001, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and the March 2011 nuclear crisis in Japan — the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster.
