Five months after his infamous physical altercation with Will Smith, the American comedian Chris Rock got significant backlash on social media after making a controversial remark about Nicole Brown Simpson when explaining why he was refused the opportunity to host the Oscars next year.
At a performance on August 28 in Phoenix, Arizona, the 57-year-old performer compared returning to host the 2023 Oscars to Nicole Brown Simpson’s return to the Italian restaurant where she was murdered.
According to the Arizona Republic, the comedian said that he “humbly” declined a Super Bowl advertisement. Once word of his alleged joke circulated, numerous social media users criticized the comedian for his harsh remark.
Nicole Brown Simpson was the second wife of O.J. Simpson
Nicole Brown Simpson was born to an American father and a German mother on May 19, 1959. Following her birth in Frankfurt, Germany, her family moved to California.
At the age of 18, Nicole began working as a waiter at The Daisy in Beverly Hills. She met her future husband, former NFL star O.J. Simpson, there. Shortly thereafter, they began dating and fell in love.
O.J. Simpson married Nicole Brown Simpson in 1985, following his 1979 divorce from Marguerite Whitley. They have two kids, a daughter named Sydney and a son named Justin.
But, their passion was short-lived, and she filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. According to numerous accounts, OJ would attack Nicole, and their mutual friends would help them reconcile.
After watching her daughter’s dance performance on June 12, 1994, Nicole enjoyed supper with her family and friends at the Mezzaluna restaurant.
Her waiter friend Ronald Goldman offered to deliver her mother’s sunglasses, which she had forgotten before leaving, to Nicole’s residence.
A few hours later, on June 13, the corpses of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman were discovered in the residence of Nicole Brown Simpson in Los Angeles.
According to the autopsy report, Brown was stabbed seven times in the head, neck, and throat, virtually decapitating her.
When officials arrived at O.J. Simpson’s home to tell him, they discovered a bloody glove and a bloody white Ford Bronco. They later discovered a second glove on his property that was connected to the double murder.
OJ was not at home since he was in Chicago. The cops asked the former NFL player to surrender on June 17, but he fled in a different White Bronco.
After a low-speed pursuit and a brief altercation with police, O.J. turned himself in. A revolver, $9,000 in cash, a passport, and a false mustache were discovered in his possession.
The murder trial of O.J. Simpson became one of the most renowned events in the United States, with Robert Shapiro, Johnnie Cochran, and the late Robert Kardashian defending the former Football star.
After an eight-month-long trial, O.J. Simpson was exonerated in October 1995. In 1997, a judge awarded $33.5 million in compensatory damages to the Brown and Goldman families, and O.J. was held “responsible” for the murders.
