“We regret to inform you of the death of esteemed Maine journalist Chris Rose, who died Wednesday as a result of a cardiac episode.”

Chris Rose covered a number of high-profile incidents, including the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the 2015 El Faro sinking. He also reported on national stories that affected Maine residents. Chris Rose has written about celebrities such as Robin Williams, who once visited Maine to film a movie. According to News Center Maine, Chris is survived by his two children, Miranda and Duffy.

Chris’ coworkers and other TV station employees praised him as a steadfast and dependable journalist who could produce accurate and engaging reports under duress and tight deadlines. Pat Callaghan, a veteran WCSH anchor, and Chris’ former coworker stated in response to Chris’ departure in 2018:

“No one has ever been more trustworthy. He could always be relied on to meet deadlines, provide accurate, fascinating, and complete stories, and never waste words. That was most likely his on-the-job producer training.”

Chris Rose’s journalistic career over the years

Chris Rose started his career in television news at WSMW-TV in Worcester, Massachusetts. He worked as a writer and producer for Boston’s WBZ-TV. He eventually worked for News Center Maine for more than three decades.

Chris began working for WCSH as a broadcast producer in 1986. He then followed his passion and began working in front of cameras as a news reporter. According to his coworkers, Chris gave each story his all, regardless of how serious, engaging, or substantial the subject was.

Chris’ dedication and hard work were recognized in 2017 when he was inducted into the Maine Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Pat Callaghan stated in 2018 that if the News Center ever gave a reporter an MVP award, Chris would be considered every year.

After leaving News Center Maine, the veteran journalist worked as a public relations consultant at the Australia’s University of New England. Many people who knew the journalist and followed his work expressed their sorrow on Twitter. Shannon Moss, a spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety and Chris’ coworker for seven years, expressed shock at his death. She stated, ”

“Chris was more on the quiet side but he had a terrific sense of humor, and a lovely grin and he truly enjoyed being a parent to his two children. And, despite the fact that many of us have moved on from News Center Maine, we still consider ourselves a family, and our loss is heartbreaking.”

Chris’ coworker at News Center Maine for five years and now UNE’s director of public relations and communications, Sarah Delage, stated:

“He was a delight to work with, with his decades of narrative expertise, understanding of the Maine media scene, and generally calm and steady demeanor.”

Our entire communications and marketing team admired and respected him.”

Chris, she continued, had a calm, steady demeanor that aided him in public relations and in the press. Delage observed that the late journalist had the ability to put people at ease, allowing them to tell their stories without fear, worry, or discomfort.

The death of Chris Rose was described as “heartbreaking” by Ellen Beaulieu, vice president of strategy and communications at UNE. In a statement to the UNE community, she stated that Chris was a familiar face and that his presence on television throughout the state was consistent.
