Chuck Aoki was born on July 3, 1991, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to American Jennifer Nelson and Japanese father Andrew Aoki. He was born with Hereditary sensory and autonomic neuropathies type ii, a familial hereditary disorder that causes him to be unable to feel his body below his knees. Aoki was entirely normal at birth and vigorously played basketball until he gradually found his issue. He was recommended to use a wheelchair at the age of 12 and was inspired to play wheelchair rugby after seeing the film Murderball in 2005.

He has three siblings as well as parents who are extremely supportive. Chuck graduated from Southwest High School in 2009 after completing his high school career. He eventually went on to enhance his education in Human Development at the University of Arizona, where he graduated in 2011, after which he continued his studies at Metropolitan State University. Chuck graduated in 2015 and went on to study Public Policy at the University of Minnesota. He is now working on his Ph.D. in International Relations and Comparative Politics at the University of Denver.

Chuck began playing wheelchair basketball at the age of seven, and after watching Murderball, he chose to explore rugby. He began playing wheelchair rugby when he was 15 years old. He began representing the United States in 2009, and in 2001, he was voted Quad Rugby Association athlete of the year. In 2010, he was a member of the squad that won a gold medal at the World Championships. He worked as a human resources intern for the Minnesota Twins in 2007. In 2012, he began mentoring and guiding others through motivational speaking, and in 2013, he became a freelance blogger for the International Paralympic Committee.

He was named an athlete mentor at the Classroom Championships and a Paralympics ambassador in 2014.

He went on to represent the United States with the national team at the London Paralympics in 2012, where he won a bronze medal after an outstanding performance against Japan. In 2014, he competed in the World Championships and won another Bronze medal. He was given another chance to represent the United States at the Paralympics in 2016, where he won a silver medal. His rugby career continued to flourish, and he was awarded a bronze medal at the 2018 World Championships. Recently, he was chosen to be the flag bearer for the United States at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, alongside Melissa Stock.
