Chuck Bell: Professional Life, Career

Chuck Bell worked as an in-house meteorologist for “WALB-TV,” “WYFF-TV,” and “Hearst” from 1990 to 1995. Chuck worked as a chief meteorologist for “WSLS TV,” “WSLS TV NBC10,” “KOKH-TV (FOX 25),” and “Sinclair Broadcast Group” from 1995 to 2004.

Chuck relocated from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Baltimore, Maryland when the “Sinclair Broadcast Group” was centralized. Chuck began working as a weekend meteorologist for “WRC-TV” in October 2003. He began his career with the network as a weather producer and fill-in anchor.

Chuck became a weather enthusiast at a young age while growing up outside of Atlanta. Bell’s first weather memory dates back to April 4, 1974, when he and his classmates spent the entire afternoon as a first-grade student in the hallway “duck and cover” as tornadoes raged overhead, causing storms. From that point forward, Bell was involved in everything weather-related.

When it came to selecting a college that could provide both weather experience and weather education, there was only one option: The University of Oklahoma. After years of storm chasing from Texas to South Dakota and internships at TV stations in Oklahoma City, Boston, and Atlanta, it was time to hit the airwaves.

Bell’s broadcasting career took him to Albany, GA, and Greenville, SC. Until he landed on NBC4, Roanoke, Virginia, and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Bell’s favorite weather cases include the first “Storm of the Century,” a March 1993 storm that crippled the Western Carolinas and most of the East Coast. The “Blizzard of ’96” dumped 29 inches of snow in the Roanoke Valley, and Hurricane Isabel flooded the Chesapeake Bay in 2003. ”
While he enjoys snow and was delighted by Washington’s historic snowfall in the winter of 2009-2010 while working for KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City, his most memorable weather experience occurred on May 3, 1999.

When he’s not concentrating on the weather, Bell is an avid distance runner. He has completed the Marine Corps Marathon in Washington, DC three times and plans to run it again next year. When the weather is nice, he can be seen cruising around downtown DC in his vintage 1962 Corvette. Despite owning the car for 15 years, he had only raced it a few times with the top-up.
